Robert Mercer “Bobby” Dews died on Oct. 18, 2016 at the age of 73. He was born in Forsyth, the youngest son of Harry P. Dews and Irma J. Dews. Bobby graduated from the Darlington School in Rome, Ga. He then attended Furman University where he excelled in their ROTC program. Upon graduation, he was commissioned in the Army where he served as a fixed wing aviator with the 221st Reconnaissance Aviation Company. In 1969-1970, he served in the Vietnam War where he received several medals of valor, heroism, and meritorious service. Following his military service he pursued a career in the furniture industry.

Bobby is survived by his wife, Honey Buskill Dews; his daughter Mamie Dews Kinzig, her husband Brian and their two children Jackson Mercer and Katherine Grace; his son Robert Keith Dews, his wife Heather, and their son Cameron James Dews, brothers Harry P. Dews, his wife Pat and Lawton J. Dews and his wife Sandra.

A memorial service will be held Monday, Oct. 31, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the chapel of the First Presbyterian Church of Rome. Guests will be received immediately following the chapel service. A graveside service will then be held at the National Military Cemetery in Canton, Ga. at 1:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be sent to the Wounded Warriors Project.
