The Monroe County Rec Department cancelled its spring baseball and softball seasons on Monday due to the coronavirus.
Recreation director Landon Sparks said after lengthy discussions he and the recreation board made the difficult decision.
“While we are seeing some light at the end of the tunnel, there are still a lot of unknowns,” said Sparks. “Based on the feedback we received from our coaches and the number of refund requests we had already received, the board, our coordinators, and I felt it was in the best interest of all involved to forego the season.”
Sparks said they will give parents the option of either getting a refund or applying their money toward credit for the fall season.
“Thank you all for your understanding in this matter,” said Sparks. “We are so ready to see all of you but we also want to be sure your safety is first.”
