South Carolina authorities have captured fugitive Gregory Jones just hours after he left Forsyth in a stolen vehicle.
Jones apparently fled authorities again near Anderson, S.C. before wrecking and rolling over his stolen Hyundai. He is in custody.
Multiple agencies tried to serve a warrant on Jones, 38, of Virginia, at the Red Roof Inn Wednesday morning. Jones got into a Jeep and fled but officers shot his tire. He fled on foot in the Dayspring Church area and a widespread search commenced with multiple agencies, helicopters and dogs.
Around 1 p.m. authorities learned that Jones had stolen a car from Taylor Drive behind Monroe Academy. He apparently fled north and wound up on I-85 in South Carolina where he wrecked and was captured. He was wanted in Virginia for - Possession/Transport Firearms by a Convicted Felon, - Felony Possession of Firearm while in Possession of Drugs, - Felony Manufacture/Sale/Possession Controlled Substance, - Felony Proceed after receiving signal to stop x2 and - Misd. Reckless Driving x2.
He had been convicted of attempted murder in Virginia in 2003 and has faced criminal charges multiple times since then.
