A Bolingbroke man was charged with DUI after he was stopped on his riding lawn mower heading home from a beer run to the store on Rivoli Road on Thursday, April 25.
Lonnie Derrell Spoon, 59, of Harrison Road was taken to the Monroe County Jail, where he was also charged with driving while license suspended.
According to the incident report, at about 11:52 a.m., Cpl. Jake Justice of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office went to the intersection of Rivoli Road and Klopfer Road where a man, identified as Spoon, was possibly intoxicated while driving an orange lawn mower. Justice smelled alcohol on Spoon, who was wearing a gray shirt and blue jeans. Spoon told Justice he was coming from the gas station, where he had been buying beer, and said he drank one beer at about 9 a.m. that morning.
Dispatchers then determined Spoon’s license was suspended, and Spoon failed several field sobriety tests. As Justice began to read Spoon his rights, Spoon became confused at which point Justice told him he couldn’t operate any type of vehicle, including a lawn mower, on a state or county road without a valid license.
