Two drivers were hospitalized after a bad wreck at the corner of Hwys. 18 and 41 in front of the old Monroe Academy on Thursday, Jan. 16. Robert Tidwell, 80, of Morrow, told Forsyth police Sgt. David Asbell that he was on Hwy. 18 in his 2019 Ford Edge waiting to turn onto Hwy. 41 and didn’t see a log truck coming his way and pulled out in front of him. Artis Barnes, 66, of Barnesville, was driving his empty log truck north on Hwy. 41 when he swerved to avoid Tidwell and crashed into a tree off the roadway. Barnes had to be extricated and was taken by Monroe County EMS to Navicent Health with serious injuries. Monroe County EMS took Tidwell to Monroe County Hospital with visible injuries. The accident happened around 1:58 p.m. and slowed traffic for some time. (Photo/Richard Dumas)
