rescue river

Monroe County firefighters helped rescue two women who endured a 10-foot drop over the Juliette dam while tubing the Ocmulgee River last Thursday. First responders headed to the dam after a 911 call about women in the river around 2:15 p.m. Monroe County’s Popes Ferry fire station launched its rescue boat from below the dam and firefighters were able to put the women into the boat. One volunteer had to loan his boots to one woman so she could get to the boat.  One woman was treated for mild exposure and the other was taken to Navicent Health in Macon for non life threatening injuries.
