The Mary Persons High School Marching Band brought home several awards in the 43rd East Georgia Marching Band Championships at Statesboro High School on Oct. 26. The event brought 17 different bands from more than a dozen counties; it is one of the largest marching band competitions in Georgia.

MP band director Miles Benson said they had to compete inside due to the rain but said his kids performed well and more importantly maintained a great attitude throughout. They competed in class against Southeast Bulloch HS and earned the following ratings:

Excellent Percussion

Superior Drum Majors

Superior Auxiliary

Superior Band

2nd in Class Percussion

1st in Class Drum Majors

1st in Class Auxiliary

2nd in Class Band

Spirit Award Winners

Benson noted this was the second show his band members had learned this year.

“So incredibly proud of these kids and what they’re able to accomplish. Go Dawgs, and Go Band!” said Benson.

This year’s exhibition band was the Southern Pride Marching Band of Georgia Southern University with its halftime show, “Women of Pop.” The event was open to the public with many vendors on-site. All proceeds benefitted the music and band programs at Statesboro High School.
