Mary Persons High School suspended summer conditioning sessions for the football team on Wednesday until early July after a player tested positive for COVID-19.
School officials said they were notified that an athlete participating in small group conditioning sessions under the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) guidelines has tested positive for COVID-19.
Under guidance of the Department of Public Health, the athlete and others taking part in the same group are being advised to quarantine for 10-14 days. The conditioning program is tentatively scheduled to resume following the school system's planned closure for the week of July 4.
"We are closely following the guidance of our local and regional public health officials," said Dr. Mike Hickman, Superintendent of Schools. "Our first and primary goal is to maintain the well-being of our students and our staff, along with their families."
