Students in Monroe County Schools will start next year on Monday, Aug. 2 with plans to end their year on Wednesday, May 25. Monroe County Board of Education unanimously approved the 2021-22 school calendar at its Dec. 15 meeting.
Assistant Superintendent Alicia Elder said three calendar options were posted online, and the option approved by the board got the most votes from stakeholders at 549 votes versus 430 and 204 votes for the other options.
The approved calendar has teachers returning to school for in-service days July 27-30 before students report for classes. There will be a holiday for Labor Day on Sept. 6 and a week-long Fall Break, Oct. 11-15. The next school holidays will be Nov. 22-26 for Thanksgiving, followed by Dec. 20-Jan. 3 for Winter Break, with teachers returning on Jan. 4 and students coming back to class on Jan. 6.
The 2021-22 school calendar includes Martin Luther King Jr. Day holiday on Jan. 17, Presidents Day holiday on Feb. 21 and Spring Break holidays April 4-8. There will be in-service days for teachers, when students aren’t in class, on Feb. 22, March 14 and May 26-27.
