Monroe County schools have welcomed 3,964 students to classes as school opened on Friday. Superintendent Dr. Mike Hickman said that 4,144 are enrolled in schools so far this year. Above, Amanda Grant takes a first-day-of-school photo of her boys Marshall (4th grade) and Cooper (PreK) in front of T.G. Scott Elementary.  Here are the enrollment numbers by school: Sutton-617, Hubbard-673, T.G. Scott-736, MCMS-932, MPHS-1,122 and Achievement Center-64. Assistant superintendent Jackson Daniel said new lanes on Thornton Road and a new driveway at MCMS have made a huge difference there, with many positive comments from parents. Almost all bus routes had changes so Friday was a big adjustment day, said Daniel, but he said the bus routes went much smoother on Monday. Daniel thanked the sheriff’s office for their traffic control at all schools especially at Hwy. 41 and Thornton Road. (Photo/Will Davis)
