City efforts to stop Norfolk Southern from closing its railroad crossing in front of Bryant’s Collision may have hit a snag on Tuesday when the crossing had another train wreck. A Ford Fusion with a Butts County tag tried to cross from Indian Springs Drive onto Railroad Avenue going toward Bryant’s when it was struck by a train heading toward the Georgia Public Safety Training Center. The train hit the car’s passenger side (below), doing damage there, but the driver appeared to be OK. Norfolk Southern plans to close the crossing but the city of Forsyth has filed suit to stop the closure citing the inconvenience to drivers. Judge Tommy Wilson has issued a stay barring the railroad from closing the crossing until a hearing can be held. Mayor Eric Wilson said the DOT has appointed an administrative law judge to hear the dispute. The city has asked the railroad to add safety features to the crossing, which had several bad wrecks in 2013. (Photo courtesy Cameron Hearn)
