Monroe County commissioner Larry Evans removed his long-time appointee Lamarcus Davis from the county’s recreation board on Tuesday as Davis qualified to run against him for commissioner.
Evans nominated Frank Redding to replace Davis, whose 4-term expired this year, at commissioners Tuesday meeting. Redding played football at Hubbard High and is a member of the Forsyth-Monroe County Sports Hall of Fame. Each of the five commissioners appoints a member to the rec board to handle parent complaints and oversee the recreation director.
Davis has been a volunteer coach at the rec department for years, as well as an umpire.
Rec director Landon Sparks asked commissioners why Davis wasn’t re-appointed since he had agreed to stay on.
Evans explained that the commissioners can appoint whomever they please, and they also decide whether to retain the director.
“You don’t question it,” said Evans.
