Well it appears that being the Monroe County fire chief has as much job security as being a football coach. Lots of firemen complained about the now-former chief, and now Matt Perry has been shown the door just two years after he was hired. Matt was a paramedic by background and never seemed as keen on the firefighting side of things. Word on the street was that morale was low and many volunteers had quit. The surprise wasn’t that Matt lost his chief’s job but that he also lost his part-time job as director of the county Emergency Management Agency. When storms or snow were threatening, Perry seemed to thrive, crafting humorous Facebook posts with the latest forecasts. If Perry’s tired of the first responder business, perhaps a career in media awaits?
