Many people think that cheer isn’t a sport. They’re wrong! The amount of time and effort that goes into your routine is unbelieveable. Trust me, I would know, I’m on the Mary Persons C-Team cheer team. We cheer at basketball and football games, but every Saturday in October, we get to do our sport, competition cheer.
On the day of a competition, you meet everyone at the Board of Education and leave on the bus. When you get there, you go to warm-ups, which is where you stretch and warm-up all your stunts, jumps, and tumbling. After you’re done with warm-ups, you walk into the gym and wait for them to call your school’s name. Once you’re on that mat, it’s like you’re in a different world and you’re a different person and there’s nothing like it. After you’re done performing, you sit on the mat and wait for awards. Believe me, there’s nothing like hearing your school’s name being said for first place!
