axis deer

BC “Chan” Winget of Monroe County  took on his first Axis buck while hunting with King of Eights Outfitters in Texas on Oct. 16. Guide Blake Russell Marshall said that after playing cat and mouse for three days, they finally connected this big Axis buck. Winget made a 217 yard shot off of shooting sticks after swiftly closing a distance, on a 600 plus yard spot & stalk. An axis deer is a species native to India, Nepal and Sri Lanka that was introduced in the U.S. in 1932 and now thrives in Texas. It has an orange coat with white spots similar to a whitetail fawn.
