The Mary Persons JV/9th grade team capped off their season with an impressive 28-8 win over rival Upson Lee. It was the Bulldogs’ 5th win in a row.

Capitalizing on a Mary Persons turnover, Upson was able to strike first, scoring on a 4th and goal from the 14 yard line. A Knight receiver plucked a desperation throw out of the air over 3 Bulldog defenders to give the Knights an 8-0 lead after the 2 point try. Fortunately, that was all of the offense Upson would have on the day.

On the Bulldogs next possession, slot receiver Seth Davis took the jet sweep 50 yards for a TD. After the PAT the score was 8-7. After trading possessions, the Bulldogs were able to take the lead on a James May 6 yard run. The PAT made it 14-8.

On Upson’s following possession the Mary Persons defense got in on the action. Facing second and long, Upson attempted a wide receiver screen. An alert Ian Lewis cut in front of the receiver and intercepted the pass, taking it 35 yards for another Bulldog touchdown. The Dogs led 21-8.

The Bulldogs capped the scoring when QB Nemo Jones found Ty Dumas in the endzone on a 25 yard fade pass. After the Ryan Bankston PAT the score was 28-8.

The Bulldog defense was stout all day. The defensive line of Malaki Knight, Christian Mays, and Dee Davis stuffed the Knight running game. The secondary was just as good with Nick Arnold also getting an interception. The Bulldogs finish the season 5-1, with the lone loss coming to Spalding on a last second play.
