The Monroe County Middle School football team ran its record to 2-0 with a solid trouncing of Byron Middle last week.
After a slow start, the Bulldog offense got going behind the running of Braylen Jones. Jones got the Bulldogs on the board with a 60 yard touchdown run. The 2-point converson pass from Mac Nelson to Wylie Smith put the Dogs up 8-0.
The Bulldogs were able to add to the lead as time expired with another Braylen Jones TD, this time from the 1 yard line as time expired. The drive was kept alive with timely catches from Bud Morton and Wylie Smith and a Mac Nelson scramble. The Bulldogs went up 20 on a 10-yard Braylen Jones run in the 3rd quarter. Jones capped his monster day off with a 70yd TD to start the 4th quarter, giving the Bulldogs a 28-0 lead. The scoring was set after Champ Castlin ran it in from the 3 yard line to give Monroe a 34-0 lead. The Bulldogs defense was strong all day, only allowing Byron to cross the 50 yard line once. The defense was led by Peyton Turner, Nathan Ivey, and Josiah Knight.
