The MP Cross Country girls team won the Viking Invitational.

The Mary Persons Cross Country teams competed in a local meet last week at the Viking Invitational held at First Presbyterian Day School in Macon. The boys team finished in the middle of the pack in 4th place while the girls team took home the first place overall victory averaging almost a minute less per runner, than the second place Stratford Academy.

The girls win can be largely attributed to having 5 runners finish in the top 15 spots out of 68 total runners. Sophomore Abbey Stembridge led the Bulldogs finishing in 6th place with teammates Gabriella Hoover and Madelyn Causey finishing just behind her in 7th and 8th place, respectively. Just behind them, Sophomores Alanna Wood and Jessica Goodwin finished in 10th and 11th places.

The Boys team saw only 3 runners finish in the top 20 with Sophomore Cole Battles leading the way once again with a strong 8th place finish out of 103 total runners. Freshman Luke Cantrell had a great morning finishing in 17th place. Fellow Freshman Jonathan Head also earned a 19th place finish. Cantrell and Head were 2 of only 4 total freshmen who finished inside the top 20 in a talented field.

On Sept. 14, the Cross Country teams will head down to Warner Robins to compete in the next meet on their schedule. Be sure to read The Reporter to stay up-to-date with all the latest Cross Country results.
