Mary Persons’ volleyball team has won four straight after losing its first five matches.
The Lady Dogs got a non-region win over the Griffin Bears this past Thursday, Sept 3.
The Bulldogs initially got off to a shaky start, losing the first set 11-25. The second set was a close contest in which Mary Persons squeezed out ahead 25-20. The girls found their groove in the final set, which they won 15-8. The final tally was a 2-1 win for the Mary Persons.
Sophomore Sydney Reichert, the team’s outside hitter, got 9 kills in the match and had an attack percentage of 18. Sophomore Kennedy Morgan was close behind with 6 kills and an attack percentage of 12. Junior libero Madison Whitehead and senior setter Reagan Dorrity were the team players of the night. Madison got 9 assists and had 28 attack attempts while Kennedy had 6 assists and 16 attack attempts.
The day before, MP beat ACE 25-14 and 25-22 and Jones County 25-9 and 25-10 at home to get its first two wins of the year. ACE is now 0-4 and Jones County 0-6 on the year.
The Lady Dogs host Howard at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 9.
